about

Remaster of the only album produced by this shortlived but legendary band which made quite an impact on the quiet krontjong scene with their creative and innovative mixture of keroncong, dangdut, acoustic pop, folk and gave new impetus to otherwise rather sweet, tempo dulu-minded pasar malams throughout the Netherlands. No wonder they ended up in more literate venues such as the Indische Winternachten.

Spearheaded by the flamboyant singer and frontman Tino Liauw, their repertoire was charged with political and social meaning and few were those who fully apprehended and appreciated their hidden messages.

If anything, they were more Indonesia/Netherlands-centered than'Indo'-centered which made their position in the music scene unclear and unstable.

The members did have very diverse backgrounds. Tino Liauw had ample experience with both (Indonesian) popsongs as classical 'Seriosa' songs. He also was an charismatic actor. Jessica Polak sung in choirs, played recorder and was member/composer of Gong Tirta, Eté Parfait and Kalangkang, all of whom are represented here on Bandcamp. Jeroen Sep played guitar in Naar Tevredenheid, Awàs! and Immortal Fit. He also composed for theatre. Renadi Santoso was multi-instrumental performer/actor/dancer in a wide range of productions and a prolific composer. All four of them were or are still members of gamelanfusion group Gong Tirta. Their rare chemistry really produced something even bigger than the mere sum of their individual qualities.

Two years after the band ceased to exist, Tino Liauw sadly died of Aids.
